Abstract

The objective of the study was to compare the different sulphite alkaline pulp processes (AS, ASA, ASAM) and to evaluate their physical and mechanical properties.
The pulp obtained at kappa range 30-40 was evaluated, after submitting it to a beating process. The properties studied were tear index, burst index, traction index and sheet density. The results confirm the reducing power of anthraquinone which helps deslignification and which together with methanol reduce cooking time.
Pulp obtained through the sulphite alkaline processes (ASA, ASAM) and Kraft from timber of Pinus radiata (D. Don) meet the manufacturing requirements of printing paper and newspaper.
