Yield of a chipping plant in the X Region (Chile)

Abstract

The yield of a standard chipping plant that operates with roundwood (logs) obtained from managed natural forests in the Tenth Region (Chile) was studied. The results indicated a productivity of 93.6% for logs from 1.00 to 1.22 m length and less than 40 cm in diameter, 92.7% for logs of 2.44 m in length and less than 40 cm in diameter, and 85.3% for pre-cut logs or logs of 2.44 m length and greater than 40 cm; in diameter. The main volume losses related to the roundwood admitted into the plant corresponded to the peeling process, which was followed by losses in the log dimensioning process when they were greater than 40 cm in diameter.
