Abstract

The International Congress of University Journals (CIRU 2024) was held from October 8 to 10, 2024, at the Isla Teja Campus of the Universidad Austral de Chile. The event gathered representatives of scientific and university journals from Latin America and the Caribbean, fostering a space for dialogue and reflection on the contemporary challenges of academic publishing, professionalization of editorial teams, and the strengthening of regional cooperation networks. Conducted in a hybrid format, the congress addressed key topics such as open science, editorial ethics, access to knowledge, manuscript evaluation, emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence—and the sustainability of editorial models. The program included plenaries, thematic panels, presentations of journals and publications, and opportunities for academic exchange and institutional articulation. CIRU 2024 positioned itself as a significant platform for reinforcing the Latin American university publishing ecosystem, highlighting the importance of transparency, collaboration, and innovation in scholarly communication.
