Abstract

An experiment was carried out in order to detect resistant potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) accessions against the golden nematode (Globodera rostochiensis Woll). A total of 49 clones and dihaploids belonging to the Chilean Germoplasm Collection of the Universidad Austral of Chile from three different sources were tested. The widely used Cardinal variety was included as a control.
Inoculum was collected from four zones of the Elqui province (30º S) and consisted of 100 cc of soil containing an average of 14 cysts (20 eggs and juveniles II/cyst). The treatments corresponded to the different clones and dihaploids, plus the control, and were grown in 250 cc plastic pots under shadowed conditions for 90 days. Following this period, the final populations of both cysts and eggs and juveniles II were counted, allowing the calculation of the respective reproduction rates, and an assessment of resistance. Of the 50 accessions tested (including the control), 18% showed a resistant behavior, 62% were partially resistant, and the remaining 20% showed moderate susceptibility. The different behaviors were observed in the accessions from all three sources.
