Abstract

In Chile, rural areas have been affected by the rapidly growing phenomenon of land subdivision during the last decade, as a consequence of a rural property market strategy that converts farmland areas into rural properties for living. This study addresses the legal system and the scientific research linked to land change use in the Los Ríos region, to elaborate public policies for the protection of the ecosystem functions of the soil, understanding that as a whole they allow the provision of its Ecosystem Services, based on a joint effort between the academic world and the institutions in charge of generating regulations related to land use in rural areas.
