Rhodococcus equi pneumonia and colitis in a foal: First report in Chile
Main Article Content
Abstract
Rhodococcus equi was isolated for the first time in Chile from lung sample, bronchial lymph node and mesenterial lymph node obtained from a 3 month foal with chronic enteritis and pneumonia.
Gross lesions were pyogranulomatous pneumonia characterised by multiple variable size abscesses. Multiple well-defined necrotic foci, 1 to 3 cm in diameter, were in the mucosal surface of the colon, and mesenterial lymph nodes were enlarged.
Due to the infectious disease condition, it is necessary to carry out further studies to determine its epidemiological relevance in Chile.
