CHARACTERIZATION OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE REGION DE LOS RIOS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article describes the situation of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry technical high schools (EMTPs in Spanish) in terms of infrastructure and academic situation. A social survey was applied to 10 of the 13 schools that corresponded to this type of high school in the Region de Los Ríos to characterize the technical agricultural high school education in the region.
The high schools that were studied have 2,340 students in total. Fifty one percent are men and 49% women. Currently, 3,085 people have graduated in the last four years. The oldest schools (average 32 years old) are located in the communities of Lanco (2 schools), Valdivia, Mariquina and Futrono.
A total of 330 professionals work in training and education in the Region de Los Ríos’ EMTPs. The studied schools have a complementary theoretical-practical high school cycle of education through a Dual Program.
The curricula have little flexibility and there are an insufficient number of teachers for the number of active students. The infrastructure requires improvement, especially for recreational activities.
