Abstract

A Brucella strain was isolated from a haemoculture of a clinically ill veterinarian practitioner, at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Hospital Base Osorno, Chile. This strain was identified as Brucella abortus RB 51 at Laboratorio de Diagnósticos from the Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG), Osorno, based mainly in the following characteristics: resistence to Rifampicin, aerobic growth and the production of only rough colonies. The strain RB 51 was confirmed by PCR analysis.
