Abstract

The present article is an effort to define the different functions and the diversity of senses of the chronicle Diario de viaje i navegación… (1766-1767) of Father José García, complemented with an appendix entitled Breve noticia de la misión andante por el archipiélago de Chiloé por el espacio de ocho meses. The analysis of the text of the jesuit Father, of the parish of Cailín, is developed with the support of complementary theories proposed by Roland Barthes, Paul Ricoeur and Tzvetan Todorov.
