Abstract

This article intends to provide an historical overview of what U.S. academic circles refer to as the Chicano Novel. Evolving from specific ethnic, social, cultural, and linguistic postulates, this discourse has been gradually accepted into the American literary canon. During the process of recognition and acknowledgement of this new fiction, criticism has played a crucial role through its discovery of universal literary parameters.
