Abstract

This article focuses on the analysis of the expression of the subject personal pronoun. In contrast to the numerous studies that examine this phenomenon in the conversational speech of different communities in Spain and America, we study the presence and absence of the pronoun in the urgent interpellations of the Spanish Parliament. The results reveal that there are different tendencies in this discursive genre, orally materialized in a formal communicative situation after a previous elaboration process, from those observed in conversational speech. Statistical analysis of the data will allow us to establish the internal and external factors which are significantly associated with the expression and omission of the pronominal subject, to know the intensity of these associations and to determine the categories of each independent variable which contribute to the value of the contrast statistic. Finally, binomial logistic regression analysis will provide the explanatory models of variation.
