Babel, a modernista magazine of the 1920s (Buenos Aires, 1921-1929)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The following paper attempts to delve deeper into the Argentine hemerographic space of the 1920s, in order to review the historiographical cut between avant-garde and modernismo that, in the Latin American context, began to occur between 1921 and 1922. For this, we have chosen the magazine Babel (Buenos Aires, 1921-1929) by Samuel Glusberg, as a late modernismo manifestation, in resistance to the avant-garde novelties that Prisma, Proa and Martín Fierro tried to offer. The article is divided into two sections; The first seeks to define that “late modernism” in which the magazine is part. The second focuses on the syntax of the magazine, to elucidate its rhetorical and discursive strategies that reveal its impetus towards postmodernism.
