Abstract

This paper deals with the figure of the interior (the room) heavily decorated in different works of the Hispano-American modernism as a way of linking the subjective and social aspect. Based on the work by Walter Benjamin about Paris in the ninetieth century, the figure of the interior is related to the liberal modernization by the fin de siècle, to the acquisition of commodities, to the new aesthetic tendencies, to the refinement and exotic aspects, to the question of cultural identity, and to the function of the poet in society.
