Ethnography about the honor and the violence of an Argentine football team supporters

Abstract

The recurrent and constant state of hostility that characterises the participation of supporters in the local football arena is the framework in which the violent actions of a supporters’s special sector, gathered in the natively named la hinchada or la barra of a club, become important. The aim of the present work is to analyse the supporters’s actions by considering the fights which these people trigger against their adversaries as disputes to get the possesion of el aguante and the recognition of their honor. We will also point up the parallel models to the social order, based on sexual transgressions or illicit relationships that led to a high percentage of miscegenation and ilegetimacy.
