Brazil Builds: Architecture New and Old. Implications of the dissemination of modern Brazilian architecture
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research paper stems from the Ph.D thesis of the author. Architecture production in Brazil during the first decade of the twentieth century was quite expressive. This drew the attention of New York's Museum of Modern Art [MoMA], which decided to arrange an exhibition in New York, followed by a book called Brazil Builds: Architecture New and Old, 1 652-1 942. While old architecture was also considered, it was modern architecture and its innovations which enjoyed greater success. Architecture production during that period was very expressive and the display caused great impact, initially in New York and then in other US cities, and later with the book that took it to other countries.
