Abstract

The colonial introduction of Valparaíso to sovereignty strategies and the early installation of modernity in port facilities result in changes in appearance with urban features. Map sources shed light over a bastion that will inaugurate the steady structuring of the coast line as flat land. Settlement facilities will overlap with the port and rural shoreline, in addition to a structuring axis that overcomes siting and mobility obstacles between ravines and a plain. The origin of quarters will provide new information about the integration of territorial morphologies, as well as cultural heritages, by analyzing the urban origin and behavior of an American city that does not follow the Indies pattern.
