ANTILHUE : RAILWAY, LIFESTYLE AND ERADICATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
Antilhue is a small town in southern Chile, located a few kilometers away from the city of Valdivia. It was established during the first decades of the 20th century, with a large cultural burden due to the presence of the railway. This gave rise to a particular lifestyle based on orchards and backyard systems.
Currently, the town is about to be declared an Urban Zone under the PLADECO (Commune Development Plan) of Los Lagos. Its buildable area will be more than tripled from its current value, therefore prompting a disproportionate residential land use.
Present lifestyles in the town are discussed by studying the displacement systems and determine if this lifestyle can be integrated into new eradication policies. The study encompasses a sample of three housing systems from which common patterns are derived and which recognize a particular way of living. The study concludes with the proposal to introduce these outcomes in the new housing policies promoted by the relevant municipality.
