Abstract

This article reveals the first outcomes of a research project called "Register, References and Valorization of Modern Buildings in Iquique between 1930-1970", sponsored by the Research Department of Arturo Prat University and implemented by the School of Architecture.
The project involves consultations, collection and field work. Its purpose was to inform the academic and historic knowledge concerning the city during the mentioned period and become a long-term research effort of this unexplored topic. It is a first approach to the modern movement in Iquique, placing it within an urban dynamics and establishing its value within local development.
