Abstract

The interview with Javier Arango explores topics related to the architectural heritage and its conservation from a global and historical perspective and at the same time contextualises this field of architecture in a time when conservation (and more specifically restoration) is of vital importance, particularly in a seismically active country such as Chile where an earthquake happened few months ago. From Spain, crossing through Europe, Javier shows various examples of where the architectural heritage has been valued and restored. Finally, Javier speaks to us of his vision for Chile regarding the value of local elements, and particularly Valdivia where the heritage is composed of different historical moments as well as the duality between the natural and built elements.
