Abstract

Gilles Clement speaks to us about the paradigmatic change the discipline of landscape is going through, from a Cosmo vision originated in France, anthropocentric (man is the center) and which conceives nature as an object, towards an ecocentric Cosmo vision (man as part of the ecosystem) and of the uncontrollable and unpredictable nature. From a rigid and static esthetics towards esthetics of diversity and dynamics. He also alerts us about the dangers of a materialistic notion of progress, and how this is translated into an urban growth and the associated landscape degradation.
