Abstract

The following research aims at addressing one of the main risk factors facing Valparaíso: fires. While these events take place periodically, comprehensive prevention and even eradication measures are still missing. Following an inclusive and integral perspective, this work suggests a different approach: environmental. Considering Valparaíso's vulnerability, resulting from its latent risk and low humidity rates, several strategies are discussed focused on environmental regeneration and restoral. The scope of action will not restrict to urban areas but will also include that "backyard" that everyone wants to avoid and where regulations and political interest seem to be missing. The purpose is to generate a green territorial infrastructure favoring the city's sustainable and environmentally-friendly development.
