Abstract
The best way to achieve the sustainability of an urban project is with active community participation and engagement. Planners, however, are essential in the development process and act as interpreters within open dialogue and innovation efforts. In terms of public spaces, most municipalities fail to adequately meet their service rendering roles. The role of the public space, however, is so important that it could be said that a city’s urban and social fabric could be measured by the quality of such spaces. The goal is to define –using a GIS– public spaces of certain relevance in Piura, Peru, and through an acupuncture treatment, fill in those gaps with specific uses so as to improve public life. Joint actions are undertaken with the neighbors to identify their needs and bring the community together.
