Abstract

Currently, neoliberalism has left its footprint on almost every form of production worldwide, encompassing a broad range of scales from global to local. Its reach and expressions take place both at the core of neoliberal processes and in fringe areas seemingly less exposed to its influence. This article (re)presents the spatial expression of ocean neoliberalization in Chile through the case study of Chiloe’s inland sea. Reviewing the general context of neoliberalism, neoliberalism in oceans, and neoliberal sea-related legislations in Chile, a cartographic analysis finally shows Chiloe’ inland sea as an area filled with spatial elements revealing a complex domain with a marked subdivision rationale of the marine surface area and the coexistence of inherently diverse factors.
