Prospects for the Applicability of Ecodesign in University Industrial Designer Training in Chile
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work established a preliminary diagnostic overview of the conditions present in some university industrial designer programs in Chile, as well as the possibilities of introducing ecodesign as an applicable methodology in sustainable projects. Information from different sources was analyzed, as well as data from a sample of 141 students from four Chilean universities, between the second and fifth year of the regular program. A descriptive study was developed of the variables involved in the recognition of environmental issues and the teaching strategies most frequently used in design projects. The results show a relative theoretical management of these topics by students and important weaknesses when it comes to integrating them in a practical way. We conclude with a simplified methodological approach to ecodesign, which could be considered in the teaching of design and other related disciplines.
