Energy Simulation of Homes in Temperate-Warm Climates: Design and Construction Variables Discussed in Pilot Cases
Main Article Content
Abstract
In regions with temperate-warm climates, characterized by high solar radiation, daily temperature ranges, and intense dry winds, optimizing the energy efficiency of dwellings is crucial to reduce energy demand and ensure thermal comfort. This study evaluates the energy performance of four pilot dwellings located in an arid environment through dynamic simulations using the official AIN software, developed by the Argentine Nation’s Energy Secretariat. The Energy Performance Index (EPI) is calculated considering constructive, climatic, and architectural design variables. Likewise, improvement interventions adapted to each case are proposed, quantifying their impact on the reduction of thermal loads. Results reveal that energy efficiency depends on the quality of the thermal envelope and the introduction of appropriate passive strategies. This work offers technical evidence applicable to the design and rehabilitation of social housing in arid and temperate-warm zones, contributing to more efficient, equitable, and climate-sensitive decision-making.
