Abstract

This document formulates the reconfiguration of the tourist offer of Ixtapan de la Sal, one of the most important tourist destinations in the State of Mexico, as a result of promoted strategies especially by the private sector which has dominated the decision making in tourism. The most important events that influenced the tourist configuration between 1980 and 2010 are discussed from the perspective of policy networks, which analyze the relationships between the actors parting from their objectives and interests; from their resources, links of cooperation or from the dependency of other actors of the networks which is an abstract representation of reality. The information obtained as a result of interviews to key people and the empiric work, prove that through this lapse of time, conditions were generated which jeopardize its permanency as a tourist destination and even affect the residents quality of life.
