PROPOSAL OF A MODEL FOR UNDERSTANDING SERIOUS LEISURE EXPERIENCE IN SURF PRACTICE AND SURF TOURISM

Abstract
This article establishes concepts related to leisure and serious leisure experience determining their characteristics in order to link them to surf practice. From a bibliography base, the research focuses on suggesting a model that could contribute to explaining serious leisure experience in surf practice and surf tourism. Serious leisure characteristics and three attributes of the practice were considered, such as: perceived competence, connection with the environment, and surf subculture.
This context was subjected to empirical analysis, which allowed us to assess the model. Below is the explanation of the procedure carried out in field work and the statistical processes taken into consideration, thus the model is analyzed according to the methodology in use and the results are established in order to contribute to the discussion of the model for further adjustments and research.
