Abstract

The expansion of global economy has triggered the growth of new sectors where tourism presents a positive trend, new segments that follow a modern and dynamic society appear, and niches such as cultural tourism gain interest within the academic community. This paper analyzes the state of art of urban cultural tourism in different cities and regions through a review of academic literature in order to understand the experiences, development processes and trends on such field. The methodology used consisted of a bibliometric e analysis of 112 scientific articles, the majority of which were published in European countries after 2010. From this study, it is learned that some Spanish cities have established a model of tourism.

Finally, it is concluded that the study of such themes should go in depth so a theoretical corpus can be achieved in countries like Mexico, known internationally for its cultural assets and wealth.
