Abstract

The article has two objectives. The first, to present a brief account of how do-mestic tourism has developed in Mexico. The importance of analyzing this issue is due to the fact that over many years it has received little attention, since there have been few public policies that have been formulated and implemented to pro-mote it. Despite the importance it has for the economy. In this context, the second objective of this article is to propose a general agenda with public policy actions aimed at strengthening domestic tourism. This, in an integral way, since they are encompassed in eight axes and cover several aspects. The research is explorato-ry-descriptive. The method used was deductive. For which a review of academic articles, data and official publications was made. In the same way, the field work carried out in the last eleven years in some tourist destinations in the country was resumed. The results that are reached are that in 124 years some behaviors of the Mexican population have been modified, from not leaving their places of origin to registering 242 million national tourists, with a consumption of more than two billion pesos in 2019.
