Abstract

On August 11th,1967, a banner was hung over the frontispice of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile’s (PUC) main building. It is the year of the so-called University Reform. A true writing event, the banner’s appearance not only grants visibility to the student’s movement. According to our hypothesis, it becomes a specific moment in the conformation of a contemporary written contesting culture. This article sets out to approach some of the series in which this event inscribes itself, which will not only allow us to glimpse a political history of public writing, but also to postulate certain characteristics of the structuring of a contesting writing practice in which the materiality of the written word plays a fundamental role.
