Abstract

Based on a case study on the Intercultural Bilingual Education program (EIB) of the Chilean government the article aims to analyze Bourdieu´s theory of “symbolic power” and its impact for the promotion of interculturality in Chile. In this framework, the school is regarded as a place of confrontation of the dominant Chilean and the Mapuche culture. By notes from interviews with teachers school is presented as another and indirect “battle ground” of the intercultural conflict in Chile.
