Abstract
Immigration to Chile has changed. From being an exporting migrant country, in the last 10 years it has become a host country. This reality brings with it the formation of new networks of social relations between locals and migrants, which are influenced by the information that each group receives about the other. In this context, the objective of this work is to know the social representations that arise from the publications made by the newspaper Diario Austral de Temuco, between 2018 and 2019, regarding immigration in La Araucanía. For this, the analysis of the factual dimension of discourse is used in 47 news items. The main results indicate that the Diario Austral de Temuco elaborates social representations of migrations as an alarming phenomenon and with a migrant subject involved in vulnerability.
