Abstract

One of the main issues endured by different nations around the globe is forced displacement. Internal migration places Colombia as the world’s first country with this problem. This article examines representations linked to the departure, settlement, and possible return of displaced persons in Colombian cinema through the analysis of three films about diaspora (Pequeñas voces, La Sirga y Siembra). The article’s main argument is that cinema centered on forced displacement, in an aesthetic-narrative fashion, reveals the phenomena and its singularity. More precisely, it reveals how migration affects children causing corporal damages, and how the diaspora turns cyclic, and the journey back home seems like a chimera for the displaced persons.
