Abstract

The following article addresses the role played by mothers’ homes under the civil and military dictatorship chilean, especially as a means of guardianship over women. It is particularly interesting to recognize the role of female volunteers from CEMA Chile and the National Secretariat for Women in these spaces.

The analysis considers the main discourses present in the press and official documents that disseminate the objectives of these homes and the representations of the participants in these spaces, who were mainly women and girls from working-class sectors. The main sources consulted are the national press and documents from the National Administration Archive for the period under study (1973-1990).
