The virtuous circle of social ontology: cooperation-institutions-deontic powers

Abstract
In this essay, I argue that in John Searle's social ontology there is a virtuous circle between cooperation, institutions, and deontic powers. That is, these are categories that mutually feed on and strengthen in the social reality. In the first section, I introduce to the concepts and problems discussed here, while in the second I expound the abc of Searle’s social ontology. In the third section, I discuss how institutions are linked to social practices, that is, how the former synthesizes the existence of the latter. For without institutions certain practices would not exist, because certain social practices necessarily lead to the creation of institutions. Finally, in the last section, I argue about the existence of a virtuous circle between cooperation (and trust), institutions and deontic powers. In other words, I maintain that there is a phenomenon of mutual feedback and strengthening, in so far as the existence of one category fosters the existence of the other categories.
