The Unhappy? Marriage between Feminism and Unionism. Reflections on International Studies
Main Article Content
Abstract
Throughout the development of feminism, the relationship between salaried work and domestic work, their tensions and inequalities is a theme that appears frequently. On the other hand, the transformations that have occurred in the composition of the labor market since the '70s, and their correlation in the worker’s organization at central countries, generated an effervescence of discussions around union strategies, which included in many
cases, the situation of women. In this work we propose to rescue the discussions that took place in international studies (mainly British and French) regarding the transformations within unions and the links between feminism and unionism at the end of the 20th century to reflect on the problems that we face on this side of the globe and the specificities that the local experience presents. This research focuses first on the institutionalist vision, represented in the British proposal and, second, developing the perspective of structural social relations of sex through the work of Margaret Maruani. We aim to conclude with a brief reflection on local processes, fundamentally from the beginning of the new cycle of feminist mobilizations in Argentina in 2015 and the subsequent international women's strikes.
