The place of politics in times of disenchantment: between displacement and resentment

Abstract
This paper analyzes the transformations in the relationship between citizen audiences and the political sphere in Argentina between 2024 and 2025, using the political landscape of Córdoba as a case study. Drawing on Post-structuralist Discourse Theory and the logics of critical explanation approach, it proposes that disenchantment operates as a social logic, transversal to the entire ideological spectrum, regarding the overall relations between citizens and politics. This phenomenon is characterized by a grammar of disaffection toward traditional institutions (parties, unions, state powers) and a pejorative interpretation of professional politics, perceived as a “caste” alienated from social needs. Based on this common ground of disenchantment, the research identifies two qualitatively distinct modes of identification. On one hand, displacement, observed both in sectors of Peronism seeking channels of action outside organic structures, and in Javier Milei’s voters who maintain skeptical, non-dogmatic support. On the other hand, resentment, identified as a reactive and affectively intense logic that channels frustration through antagonism toward the recent past and the search for scapegoats. The paper concludes that these logics reconfigure the discursive battlefield, operating as subjective responses to the metamorphosis of contemporary democratic representation.
