Abstract

The first condition for a sustainable urban planning is an improvement in the aquatic resources. This article reviews the components of the hydrological cycle and how those are impacted by the urbanization. It establishes that the urban space creates a new hydrological environment unbearable for the aquatic resources and also for all kind of life. Some urban design alternatives were propose toward alleviate the produced impacts. Eventually, this study presents a case located in a valdivian peri-central neighbourhood that creates a preservation area containing a forest and a wetland. In this area it will evidence the enormous potential that the green urban spaces have.
