PROFILE OF 27 ORGANIC FARMERS BETWEEN V AND X REGIONS OF CHILE

Abstract

 






During the period between March to December 1999, it was realized the study of a group of organic farmers located between the V and X Region of the country, to know the profile of the producers that are dedicated to the development of the organic agriculture in Chile. The purpose was to know the common characteristics that unite them and then to group them by means of a Cluster analysis and also to know the difficulties that impede that more farmers are integrated to this market.
Three groups were obtained with 66,7%, 25,9% and 7,4% respectively. The first group has 38% of its surface with organic agriculture, which was almost certified entirety. The second group is a newer one in the area with 9,8% of its surface dedicated to the item, and the third group dedicates its entirety surface to the organic agriculture, certifying alone a 38%.
Finally the main lacks of the studied group, are the investigation, market, organic inputs and financing for this productive alternative.
