Abstract

The text discusses the "casa de altos", a type of dwelling that combines businesses and housing, largely built by the end of the nineteenth century until the mid-twentieth century. The casa de altos is an urban piece specially developed in the core scene of cities and towns, representing an expression of central lifestyles. Its main urban contribution is that it is part of the core scene of most Chilean cities. In the country's southern area, it is a valuable architectonic heritage associated with history, wood, and neoclassical and modern architecture.
