Abstract

Restoration of one of the oldest churches in La Serena, declared as National Monument, began with a restoration study to diagnose damages in the building, indicating the corresponding intervention criteria for its renovation. Since 1991 and supported by different funds, diverse parts of the work has been reconstructed and restored, until finishing in its present state, whose cult-cultural role rescues its value based on three specific objectives: to exhibit the regional religious heritage; to establish a regional spot for Information and archives; and finally, to give a sustainable use to the recovered religious patrimony.
