Abstract

Germination tests were performed, both in germinator and nursery, with seeds of the species Alerce, Ciprés de las Guaitecas, Ciprés de la Cordillera and Tineo.
The following results were obtained: Alerce requires 60 days of stratification to get 24% of germination and a high germination value; the results of a 90 days treatment of stratification have not yet been obtained; Alerce seeds germinate without difficulties in a organic substrate. Ciprés de las Guaitecas got the best germination value with a 60 days stratification. Ciprés de la Cordillera requires only 30 days of stratification to get a high germination percentage (77%) and a good germination value; it is easy to get a good production in the nursery. Tineo does not require any treatment to get a high germination percentage (77%), however it is very difficult to get seedlings in the nursery due to the microscopic size of the seeds.
