Fighting disinformation: A critical literature review

Abstract
The proliferation of disinformation poses a threat to democratic processes, public health, the stability of civil society institutions, and the safety of the population. The perception that this threat is growing has led a wide range of civil society organizations, governments, social networks, and researchers across fields to focus on designing and implementing strategies to limit the harmful effects of disinformation. Based on a critical analysis of the existing scientific literature, this article identifies the strategies proposed to address what some have called the phenomenon of information disorder and evaluates the most significant obstacles they face.
