The Contextualist Approach to Morality

Abstract

This article is part of a research program that modifies the traditional prism of the moral phenomenon. It outlines here ten points that characterize contextualism as a new approach to morality based on the first-person moral experience of actors, rather than as a new moral theory based on philosophical principles. It is not a normative theory, because it does not offer a principle that directly guides action. Contextualism must be rigorously qualified as a moral approach and not as a theory, which seeks to show the moral phenomenon in all its concrete complexity starting from the experience of the actors, always referring ultimately to their
identity, indissolubly factual and counterfactual.
