Abstract

The city of Yungay underwent the earthquake of February 2010, which produced serious damage to its households and infrastructure. Over two thousand students from the two main city schools had to be re-located in a modular school installed on lands belonging to the city’s municipal stadium. The project, besides from architecture, included green areas and a yard for the school, which will be highly important due to the crucial role the school will fulfill in the city reconstruction process. Three hard yards were projected, each one possessing a markedly different role, which are connected through wooden footbridges permitting the external circulation of the school and which also connect all classrooms and other spaces.
