Abstract

This article aims to showcase some of the contemporary views from which the teacher-student relationship is addressed. This issue, crucial for education, was the central topic of an article written by Fernando Oyarzún and published in the first issue of Estudios Pedagógicos. Today, 40 years after the publication of this article, along with redeeming the relevance of the topic and its influence on the educational process, we collected four perspectives which can contribute to the understanding of this dialogic relationship between teacher and student: the attachment theory, strength based-education, motivation and, lastly, the mediating role of the teacher exemplified through reading mediation. Finally, some challenges for the educator are suggested, taking into perspective the approaches discussed.
