Abstract
Nowadays we can see that Chile is experiencing a crisis related to its democratic representation and a weakening of its social cohesion. The perspective from which this reflection raises the problem proposes this phenomenon doesn’t relate to higher or lesser participation of youth in the community, but to the reduction and fragmentation of public space in the imaginary structure of society. Overcoming this individualized hyper subjectivity implies a transformation of the social imaginary characterized by the combination of a democracy which although representative is exclusive and disi lestrigones ntegrative of the public space. There is a neoliberal economic logic that has pervaded all spheres of human endeavor. This transformation represents a series of challenges to citizenship education due to its roots are in the same imaginary of a cracked social structure.
