Abstract

This research analyses some risk and protective factors that could increase the possibility of improving the resilience in a school at social risk, belonging to a Plan 900 in Valdivia. Even though the families are of low social and economic status, they appear as a protective factor. At the same time, full-day work at school and a good self-esteem of some students also appear as a protective factor. The main finding of this research is that the low quality of education that students receive is the main risk factor for the development of resilience at school. It also suggests that through professional teacher training it is possible to improve the quality of education.
