Abstract

This was a study about the personality and academic performance profiles of the Universidad Católica del Maule’ students. The sample included 287 students from both sexes. It was found that the predominant personality characteristics present in the group, according to the A. Edwards’s Test, are persistence and exhibitionism, even though, there are other features that play a role in their formation, which varies according to the demands of the environment and society.
With respect to their learning strategies, according to the Kolb’s Test, we determined some students who seem to learn more through the use of passive and theoretical learning strategies instead of more flexible and dynamic methodologies.
According to the Holland’s Test, they seem to have chosen the correct career, except in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, in which they seem to get to the university without a clear vocation. The averages of marks depends on each Faculty, but it is necessary to check the teaching and learning strategies, in order to optimize the educative process.
