Economic education in the school: toward a proposal of intervention

Abstract

This paper pretends to review critical aspects and challenges that is necessary to consider to show a proposal of economic education which allow, since elementary school, to contribute to the economic literacy of the kids and to impact in their families through process of intergenerational transmission. For that reason, we will try to show three key questions:
1) Which is the best age to introduce the economical information in the curriculum?
2) What influence do family and mass media exert in the early acquisition of patterns of consumption and in the relation with the money in the childhood?
3) Which are the variables to should be consider in educative interventions designs oriented to economic education in the school?
We will end with the description of our program “Me and the Economics”, that pretends to articulate the effective curriculum with the profit’s highest economic literacy levels in children.
